Social Welfare Department Meghalaya A Project Centrally Funded By National Mission For Empowerment Of Women(NMEW) Government Of India
National Mission for Empowerment of Women an initiative of Government of India was launched on 8th March 2010. The purpose of the Mission is to empower women who constitute 48% of the population of the country, socially and economically so that they become an Integral part of the Nation Building Process.

Promoting all round empowerment of women including physical, mental, social, economic and political development would be the ultimate aim of the mission.

To enable the National Mission to achieve its goal, State Mission Authority (SMA) has been envisaged as an Institutional Mechanisms set up at the State Level under the Chairmanship of the Chief Minister with the Ministers of the participating departments as Members.

The State Resource Centre for Women will provide institutional support to operationalise the activities of the mission in the State.

State Resource Centre for Women aims at convergence of women centric programmes/schemes of various line departments and gender mainstreaming of Government programmes to make gender concerns integral to the planning process.

Inorder to initiate the process of implementation of the mission for empowerment of women, constitution of the State Mission Authority and State Resource Centre for Women and after obtaining clearance and approval from the cabinet vide No. 85/2011 dt. 24th August 2011 the SRCW became operational in Meghalaya on 31st August 2012.

  • Economic Empowerment of Women
  • Eliminate violence against women
  • Social Empowerment of women with emphasis on health education
  • Gender mainstreaming of Policies, programme and institutional arrangement
  • Awareness generation and advocay for bridging information and service gaps
